Crazy Things about Link and Zelda Relationship

Posted by SwordsSwords on Oct 10th 2018

Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda series first came out in 1986, and since then the series has spread over every console the company has made so far. Over these series, the core of the franchise is the relationship between Link and Princess Zelda… the most wired relationship to have ever surfaced. Between all the fights, quests, Zelda sword, and other things; the romance is embedded in the picture where a plumber goes out to save the princess from a dragon turtle. That really is something. Though the relationship may seem like a hero-princess relationship, their history of relationship is weaved through various encounters. A timeline that is created because of failed attempts from Link and their lack of communication. These may not have been noticeable, here are some of the most astonishing things about the relationship between Princess Zelda and Link.
  1. Link can be a Douche
As most video games go, it actually requires saving the princesses. However, in the Legend of Zelda, saving the princess is not all mandatory. As it goes, if Link goes around with his Zelda sword, to save Princess Zelda, there wouldn’t have been these many games in the series. There is actually a timeline called Fallen Hero. In this timeline, Link was unable to stop Ganon at the end of Ocarina of Time. Hence, we can say that the connection between Link and Princess Zelda through the Triforce and the destiny is pretty much half doomed to failure or just a part of it.
  1. Ganon and His Third Wheeling
The weirdest thing in the relationship between Link and Princess Zelda is the involvement of another person hanging around. Especially if that person is a giant magical pig-man. So, it is pretty much evident why it is called the Triforce and not the Biforce. Nintendo might have really gotten a kick out of this. Link and Princess Zelda should be used to it by now because Ganon is surely not going anywhere.
  1. The Silence
Every relation is based on communication. But in Link and Princess Zelda’s case, this is not true. Their relationship is based more on one character not speaking up at all, and the other fills up the silence with their ranting. Look at Breath of the Wild, which is a franchise focused on the development of their relationship. In this series, Link doesn’t utter a single word with Zelda, in fact, he goes about not talking to her for months.
  1. PTSD: The Romance
Though there are many different events happening in each game, the pattern remains the same. Many of the games, like The Adventure of Link, start off with Link and Zelda at different places, quite far away from one another. It so happens that the only crisis brings them together. Even the game in which they are shown as childhood friends, Skyward Sword, they meet after some crisis.
  1. Various Love Affairs of Link
It is safe to say that the main focus is on the relationship between Zelda and Link. Because let’s face it, he is the protagonist and she has her name in the title of the game series. However, that is not always the case. The separation of Link and Zelda gives rise to Link meeting new people on his quests, and those have the potential of turning into love interests. Let’s take the Ocarina of Time: when Link comes across Malon and Saria, it seems they would develop a romantic relationship that even Link doesn’t have with Princess Zelda. Then in Breath of the Wild, a similar situation takes place with Princess Mipha. Well, Zelda sword can be used for different purposes, don’t you think? These are some pretty heavy things concerning the relationship between our two most loved game characters. Let’s just hope they don’t end soon.
