This Confederate Replica is modeled after the US Model 1858 made by Philadelphia Depot. The outer material that covers this canteen is a gray woolen, or satinette, cloth that has been hand sewn. The actual canteen is made of stainless steel with a spout. The spout has a rolled lip with a soldered seam. Attached by a steel link chain is a cork stopper to keep all the contents from spilling out. A cotton drilling strap is fed through three metal belt loops around the canteen in a way to keep it upright while carrying it. Canteens were standard issue and a very important piece of equipment for any solider. At times soldiers got creative and used old or broken canteens as plates, cooking pans, or even digging equipment. As a vitality piece of equipment this canteen will finish off any Confederate uniform.
