The style of this Civil War replicate was known as the drum canteen. It is made of stainless steel with a spout. The spout has a rolled lip with a soldered seam. Attached by a steel link chain is a cork stopper to keep all the contents from leaking out. The outer material that covers this canteen is a navy blue woolen, or satinette, cloth that has been hand sewn. This cloth when wet will keep the contents cool just like its original counter-part. A cotton drilling strap is fed through three metal belt loops around the canteen in a way to keep it upright while carrying it. Canteens were standard issue and a very important piece of equipment for any solider. Union canteens were superior quality to those of the Confederacy.
