En Garde is a French phrase meaning "On your Guard." During the European Renaissance, a father was expected to teach his son to use a Rapier style sword for fencing. It was a necessary skill for a man to know. Often times, differences were settled by a duel with rapiers. This particular rapier is an accurate model that resembles the rapier type used from the 1400's to the 1700's in Europe. It sports a high quality steel blade that has a width of about 1 inch. The double factory edge makes it useful for re-enactments but it can be sharpened, as it is a real sword. The fully tanged blade is mirror polished and completely made by hand. The wide guard completely surrounds the sword and protects the hand. It is also made from high quality steel and brazing craftsmanship. The handle of the sword is wound in wire for the extra reliability and gripping strength, and has a solid steel base. A weighted pommel gives this rapier a very agile balance for making the right defensive moves and the quickest, most powerful strikes. The full sized, metal sheath reflects actual design of the fencing rapier for an accurate appearance and function. The fittings are mirror polished and the mid body of the sheath is wrapped in very refined black leather.
