What is the point of self defense? Have you ever thought of your ability to defend yourself if someone physically attacks you? It’s an important question that most of us really don’t consider. Unfortunately, violence is a harsh fact of life. But luckily, despite strength, size or training, you can always learn effective self-defense techniques even without using self defense equipment. Here’s how you can prepare yourself and stay safe in case of some real-world violent situations.
Target the attacker’s eyes
Scratching or stabbing the attacker’s eyes using your fingers or self defense knuckles can be truly effective. In addition to causing pain, this would help you in making a successful escape by interfering with his sight.
Attack under the nose
If the attacker is standing closely in front of you, one smart strategy is to use your palm to hit under his nose. Try your best to throw your body weight into the move which will cause him pain and make him lose the grip. In another scenario, if he is behind you, you can hit his nose either from the side or front using your elbow. In any way, aim for his nasal bones.
Use your knife hand strike
The side of the neck is both an easy and effective target. Both carotid artery and jugular vein are located here and so you have a great opportunity to stun your attacker with a knife hand strike. Keep your fingers straight and tightly together with thumb pushed and somewhat bent at the knuckle. To hurt the attacker, even more, you can thrust your elbow into the attacker’s throat while diving the weight of your body forward.
Hit on knee
According to most self defense experts, the knee is a perfect target to defend yourself. All you have to do is kick the side of the knee to cause pain or temporary immobilize the attacker. Though you can kick the front of the knee to cause more injury, however, it will result in relatively less imbalance.
Use everyday objects
You might be carrying certain objects when stepping out of your home or workplace, don’t forget these can be used as smart weapons against the attacker. For instance, holding your key or pen between the middle and ring finger can give you a safety assurance. Likewise, when moving outside, you can throw dirt or sand into your attacker’s eyes. Many people often keep spray perfumes with themselves which can be used to temporary hurt or blind your attacker’s eyes.
Leverage your weight
Regardless of your weight, size, and strength, you can always defend yourself by tactically using your body. The simple laws of physics are the principles behind martial arts and other self-defense programs where a small person can easily beat the hulk one without having any self-defense equipment.
Wrist Hold
In most attacking scenarios, the attacker is more likely to grab your wrist. Instead of pulling yourself back to get out of the hold, squat down in a strong stance, lean forward and bend your elbow towards him all the way to his forearm. As a result, he won’t be able to grab your wrist anymore.
Conclusion
These are some of the easy yet effective self-defense moves and techniques that can surely protect you one day or at least help you to keep yourself safe and confident. If you know any other self-defense tips or techniques and easy to use self-defense equipment, we would like to hear from you.
