Devil May Cry HD collection is coming soon and interestingly the Twitch Prime is offering the first game for free. For 3-D gaming enthusiasts, most of them probably know about the protagonist: Dante, the entertaining and pizza-hogging with a trendy red coat and weapons. You might think where the Dante get started? Well, the Capcom series is running for about 20 years with several power rangers acting in the series. Let’s turn back the DMC chapters.
Devil May Cry (2001)
Launched on October 17, 2001, Devil May Cry was appreciated for its amazing rewarding combat, several unique weapons, and creative move sets. For 3D action games, it was considered a landmark for incorporating the aerial combat. Devil May Cry officially introduced juggling which is keeping the opponent up in the air through combos that were previously discovered in Capcom’s action series. Devil May Cry is inspired and built around this area. The player uses a number of Dante’s weapons to style all over his opponents. The game was released with a dynamic entrance onto the gaming scene shrieking metal and one-liners wrapped in 80s goth imagery. The style rating system shows how radically they were playing. Even after some of the issues associated with the game’s plot and poorly developed characters, fans were left wanting for more. It was nearly impossible to get wrong after such tremendous success.
Devil May Cry 2 (2003)
Devil May Cry 2 was released in 2003, and it was a bestseller at the time. The game sold approximately 1.4 million copies within three months. Though today it is considered the worst-rated Devil May Cry of all times. For instance, enemies hardly reach when being hit. All weapons were swords with some variations and the similar move set. Even the boss battles were relatively less creative in comparison to the prior game. For instance, one boss is a helicopter but it seemed to be attacking similar to other generic attack helicopters. Then what’s the point of infected demon parasite? Devil May Cry 2 had many issues yet it introduced many functions that would become series staples later. The game had various characters, unlockable outfits for every player, a steadfast roll/wall run option, a quick weapon-switch button, and bloody palace mode. The game’s deuterogamist, Lucia, is playable on a separate disk. Trish, a character from the Devil May Cry 1 came back as a secret character unlocked by beating hard mode with other players. Each character’s mission is mostly the same and you will be not rewarded for beating Bloody Palace. They may not be perfect but they do provide prototypes for the rest of the series.
Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening (2005)
The DMC series needed a fresh start and here we had a Devil May Cry 3. The third series is a prologue featuring Dante as an 18-year-old character in his initial days of demon hunting. The main focus of the story is on Dante stopping his twin brother and anti-villain, Vergil, in a mission for demonic power. This new game served a soft presentation for the character. The Devil May Cry 3 has extremely focused on action presented through both gameplay and cutscenes. Offering an enhanced customizable experience, the developers have introduced the style system into the series. Dante could switch among these different styles between mission which gave him new and unique moves.
Devil May Cry 4 (2008)
After the success of Devil May Cry 3, the next step was moving on to the new generation of platforms. The developers used Capcom’s Multi-Threat Framework engine in the Devil May Cry 4 which specialized in accomplishing great performance and visuals on the Xbox 260 and PlayStation 3. The game is designed in a way that newcomers would be able to ease in the challenging game curve as well as offering some new interesting tools to the players. The primary character in Devil May Cry 4 is Nero, a young knight equipped with a flaming sword, double-barreled pistol, and a demonic arm known as “Devil Bringer”. The Devil Bringer allows players to interact with opponents in new ways such as gripping and flinging along with interacting with bosses. The key idea behind Nero is to offer ease of playing before taking them to Dante in the second half. Dante’s move set requires more coordination due to the availability of various styles. Devil May Cry sold two million copies thus successfully meeting the past Capcom’s expectations. The game was appreciated for its performance and ease of playing through some reviewers had concerns with story pacing.
Devil May Cry (2013)
The Devil May Cry (2013) intends to reboot the gaming series with a Western tone and expand the audience base. At this point, Capcom started its partnership with many Western studious to emphasize on global financial success. Capcom looked forward to the Ninja Theory, which received significant financial success with Heavenly Sword and Enslaved. The director of Ninja Theory, Tameem Antonia's wanted to make the latest Devil May Cry more inclined towards Hollywood movies. The original Ninja was an overstated Western action hero as observed through the Japanese lens whereas Ninja Theory’s Dante was inspired by Western media such as Chronical and British punk scene. From proclamation to release, the atmosphere was pretty nasty. On release of the game, the audience found Dante no cooler. Strangely, he gets white hair by the end of the game. It has several downloadable costumes that make him physically appear like the original Dante. The game takes a new step with more characterization as Dante used to drink in nightclubs until he meets his brother Vergil who owns an internet group anonymously and fight against Mundus. Overall, the game received the deserving appreciation for its environment design, color schemes, streamlined combat, and voice acting. Though the game ended up selling 1 million fewer copies in comparison to DMC 4. Some people were thinking that the game had failed to serve its purpose. For an action-packed series with a lot of charm and cheese, Demon May Cry has certainly the incredible history.
