Thanksgiving brings the laughter and joy of loved ones along with scrumptious food every year. The holiday fête is celebrated over a roasted turkey and a table full of delicious treats. Old stories are shared and new memories are made. Games are played and children learn the traditions of the family. Children play games, enjoy the company of their age-mates, and there are no holds barred over merriment. However, the adults might be getting a bit tired of the same old Thanksgiving routine. To spice it up, we have a few ideas for you! Let us introduce some new games and fun activities in your thanksgiving routine. After all, why should only kids have all the fun?
Turkey Carving Contests
Turkey and Thanksgiving are inseparable. There is always one person in every family who claims to be a master carver. There is always someone else who disagrees with this claim. To make the Thanksgiving dinner even more exciting, add an element of competition. Divide the turkey into two parts and let the carving competition begin. Whoever wins, gets the bragging rights and the best-carved meat.
Experiment with Recipes
Let the kids and the adults brainstorm together to create fun new recipes. Invent new side-dishes like cranberry potatoes or cookies and cream pie. These impromptu inventions bring the family closer and make the dinner table more interesting. Construct a cocoa station with an assortment of marshmallows, syrups, creams, chocolate chips, and wafers. Let the sweet tooth run wild.
Craft Stations
Craft stations where guests can get their hands on some art and crafts are therapeutic. Get some coloring books, crafting paper, ribbons, glitter, glue, and color pens. Set these up in a living room nook and let the imagination roam free. Guests can color gratitude cards, thanksgiving wishes, and can even compose letters for each other.
Turkey Tag
Turkey Tag is a game just like Hot Potato. A knitted turkey is passed around the guests from the commencement of the party until the end. The person who possesses it at the end of the celebration gets to buy everyone a round of beer or juice, depending on the age. This is a fun game that keeps everyone on their toes throughout dinner. A turkey figurine or a brooch can also be used if a knitted turkey figure is not available.
Host a Themed Dinner party
A pilgrim-themed dinner party or even a Victorian-themed dinner party might be the best idea of Thanksgiving this year. The nostalgia for Halloween is at a peak during this holiday. Additionally, the children enjoy parties even more in costumes. The adults also get a chance to dress up and relax as well. Make sure to get themed
cutlery and décor items as well.
Pumpkin Bowling
Halloween may be long past, but the pumpkin fever is forever. Pumpkin bowing is the perfect game for all autumn holidays. All you need is a small pumpkin, a smooth surface like a table or a floor, and some plastic bottles or cups. Simply roll the pumpkin to the assorted cups or bottles and watch your bowling expert friends fumble and fail. You can even design scorecards and the winner can get the first pick of the turkey meat.
The Secret Thanksgiving “Thank You” Game
This game is heavily inspired by the “Secret Santa” Christmas game. The concept is similar but its method is a bit different. People of all ages can take part in this fun. Everyone writes their names on three different pieces of paper. All the names are shuffled and mixed in a pilgrim’s hat or any available bowl. Then, everyone must pick three random pieces of paper. If one picks their name or someone else’s name twice, they get to pick again. In the end, everyone ends up with three unique names.
All the participants have to pen a thank you note to three people they have drawn. This note can be a small gift, a heartfelt letter, or a public declaration. As a result, everyone at the table feels loved, appreciated, and cherished. It might be easier if you draw the names a week before Thanksgiving, but the modified game can also to fit a shorter time frame.
Board Game Madness
Traditional board games are a perfect way to spend quality time with your guests. Games such as Uno, Monopoly, Playing Cards, and Chess are a few that engage guests of all ages equally. You can also pick some of the newer games like Cards against Humanity, or what do you Meme? These games are sure to cause a spectacle in your party.
