The Villain’s very first step into the limelight was under his moniker “Zev love X” when he was 17 years old. He joined the KMD group with his brother DJ Subroc who was swapped by Onyx the Birthstone Kid later on. After the death of his brother, he left the group. MF Doom Mask.
Pre-MF DOOM (1997-1999)
Prior to picking up the identity of MF DOOM, Dumile had decided to cover up his face after returning to the hip-hop scene. On one event, he also wore a bandana over his face to hide his identity. Well, the funny part is that we have heard about him wearing socks to cover his face. Though a very few viral photographs among public were authentic.
Prototype DOOM mask (1999)
Dumile took on the identity of MF DOOM and started wearing the real mask instead of bandana and stockings. Though the mask was not made of real metal but used plastic as a modified version of WWF Kane mask. Cleaning his mask with gasoline was probably not a good idea. Have you ever tried this? I will suggest, DON’T!
Original DOOM mask (2000-2004)
"We went out and found the whole helmet from the movie 'Gladiator', Blake 'KEO' Lethem.
The mask was worn on the album cover of Madvillainy. It was the first time when the mask was made of metal. It was simply the face plate from a dismantled roman helmet replica from the popular movie “Gladiator” and enhanced with helmet webbing. Since then, it was considered to be the face of MF Doom.
Original DOOM mask and Side spikes (2005-2010)
It started to appear around the time when DOOM collaborated with Danger DOOM. In the year 2004, DOOM still appeared with his original MF DOOM mask. With the release of his new album “The Mouse and the Mask”, there were photos of the Danger DOOM along the side of his face. Though the mask on the cover of his album didn’t have any spikes. The overall appearance of the mask was very similar to the original mask as it had two spikes positioned on each temporal bone.
Original DOOM mask and Jewel along with Side spikes (2011-2014)
You might have seen this mask in his music videos with Jneiro Jarel where he appeared as a part of JJ DOOM. Also, he wore this mask during the Red Bull Music Academy interview. The mask closely resembles the original one with the side spikes. The major change was the inclusion of red jewel between the eyebrow area. On some events, the jewels were seen in other colors as well such as cyan blue. It looked more stunning as the reflection of light was enhanced.
Golden DOOM mask (May 2014)
The Golden
MF DOOM mask first appeared in the “Check the Rhyme” festival in France. The mask was modified from the silver metallic to gold. Another unique detail was the chrome/silver color of the spikes. This mask stepped into the hearts of millions of fans.
Nehruvian DOOM mask (October 2014)
The Nehruvian DOOM mask started to appear when DOOM worked with Bishop Nehru. He wore this golden mask on the NehruvianDoom album artwork. At this time, he was wearing a transparent red mask. Another difference spotted was the missing jewel between the eyes. Though the opening for the jewel was still there.
