Short Globe lanterns started being used after World War I and continued being used into the 1970S. Lanterns were used as a form of communication with different colors of lanterns meaning different commands. Red: A red globe is a signal to stop, because there is danger ahead. Red globes were made in several shades, including cranberry (deep, true red) or ruby (a slight bluish tinge). Some older red globes especially attractive to many collectors were produced in flashed glass, in which a thin coating of red glass was factory applied to clear glass globes. This keychain is 100% brass that comes on brass chain with a screw lock carabiner. The globe is made of colored acrylic to accentuate the piece. A lot of detail went in to replicating this to look just like the Short Globe Lanterns of the day. This will surely be a great gift for any train enthusiasts collection.
