The right pace!

Managing your pace is managing your target. Most of us tend to draw out all our aggression and speed while hunting. This technically is not a very smart move. Walking slowly and staying put for a long time might actually let you listen to your prey. Watch your timings and decide a period to stand still after small intervals. Stopping or staying still means staying silent for some time enhancing the keen observation. Slow and steady wins the race, keep it at the right pace for the quick target.

Must STOP!

This definitely leads to the fact that to stop at even the tiniest of noise becomes the mandatory move. Animals have terrific senses, yeah, they are actually much smarter than you! Even more when they sense danger. A saying goes that ‘sound of a snapped twig is quickly forgotten by a hunter but it is remembered by the quarry’. Animals stand long enough staring in the direction they sensed danger. They keep trying to see or smell their predator before resuming to whatever else they were doing. So, listen to the noise, stop at it and don’t move forward until you have figured out where it is coming from.

Mark the Landmarks!

Stalking is always made easy by marking the landmarks. No, this is not a tip for you to stalk out there on the streets. The reason for mentioning this here is that in order to avoid confusion between the similar locations of the forests landmarking can help a lot! While stalking an animal target and coming on it from behind mark the distant landmarks. These could be a distinctive object on the skyline easily recognizable from the back, a large tree, a rock or fence line, aiding you to the right spot. So while walking pick up the trick landmarks remember them.

Practice your Lanes

What makes a man perfect? Practice! Practice taking up shooting positions from all directions. Remove obstacles in these directions that might hinder your target. Decide the position that requires the least movement and turning for shooting in any direction. Secure your safety trap that allows movement in every direction. You never know from what direction an animal might appear, be prepared from all the shooting lanes.

Clean the Clutter

While sitting in the blind ground or next to a tree keep on clearing the clutter. Sweep away the leaves and extra twigs with the boots or your utensils. This will eliminate the unnecessary noise of the movement. This will help you track the right noises of your prey. Clean away the mess to your target.

Sleep tight!

Bring in your best bag and make the best sleeping atmosphere for you to unwind after the day and wake up fresh tomorrow. It generally is really cold out there. One must keep the extra insulation handy. The fire can go out during the night make sure the extra padding is there in addition to your sleeping bag.

Keep Dry!

Don’t sweat on a cold day. The cold will give you sore muscles. Keep everything prepared to keep yourselves dry. Even if it means stripping off layers of clothes while walking makes sure you don’t sweat.
