Templar knights, in their distinctive white mantles with a red cross, were among the most skilled fighting units of the Crusades. The Templars' existence was tied closely to the Crusades; when the Holy Land was lost, support for the Order faded. Rumors about the Templars' secret initiation ceremony created mistrust and King Philip IV of France, deeply in debt to the Order, took advantage of the situation. On Friday, 13 October 1307, many of the Order's members in France were arrested, tortured into giving false confessions, and then burned at the stake. There is folklore that suggests this is where we get Friday the 13th from as being an unlucky day. There is a Templar cross shield in the center of the main shield. Decorative simulated Fleur de lis grommets adorn the sides. The chief, dexter chief, sinister chief and base have decorative golden accents to add a touch of regal elegance to this piece only a King would carry. This shield has been constructed to resemble a real Medieval Shield but without all the heavy lifting. This piece is great for pretend play for your little ones. You too can join in and battle that rowdy youngster. This shield is perfect for your next LARP (Live Action Role Play) campaign as well as cosplay, convention costume contests or just plain pretending. Exceptionally light; you can even use it as a floating device in water. This shield is part of our Junior Warlords Collection of high quality foam padded items that are great costume pieces as well as being perfectly safe for children- awesome products for both the young and the young at heart!
